Chatham is a borough in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, Chatham’s population was 8,962, reflecting an increase of 502 (+5.9%) from the 8,460 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 453 (+5.7%) from the 8,007 counted in the 1990 Census.
Chatham, New Jersey or The Chathams is what locals call the two neighboring municipalities in Morris County, New Jersey. These include Chatham Borough which is located southeast of Madison and northeast of Summit while Chatham Township is a vast land area found west of the borough. These municipalities, although different from one another share a lot of public services including school district, public library, courthouse, recreational programs, and emergency services.
Chatham Borough is the main town center where many of its local businesses are found in Main Street which connects to other municipalities in the area. Chatham Township, on the other hand, is mostly residential area which includes a large portion of the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge.
